This explains what personal data KinaQ collects, why, and what rights you have over it. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to issue and enforce your licence, and nothing about what you actually study ever leaves your computer.
KinaQ's card-making — reading a slide, building a Q/A, Cloze, or Image Occlusion card — happens entirely on your own computer, talking only to your own local copy of Anki. Your slide content, the cards you make, and your Anki study data are never sent to us, and we have no way to see them.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | Collected by Stripe at checkout, and used by us to issue your licence key and provide support if you contact us. |
| Licence key | Generated to identify your purchase and let KinaQ (the PowerPoint add-in or browser extension) check it's genuine. |
| Device ID | A random identifier generated locally by whichever you install — not derived from your hardware or any personal information. Used only to enforce the two-device limit your licence comes with. |
| Activation timestamps | When a device activates or claims a trial, so seat limits work correctly and we can help if something looks wrong. |
| Payment / billing details | Collected and processed entirely by Stripe (see below) — we never see or store your card details. |
That's the complete list. We don't run analytics, don't use tracking or advertising technology, and don't collect anything beyond what's needed to issue and enforce a licence.
We use a small number of service providers to run KinaQ, each of whom processes data on our behalf:
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone for marketing or advertising purposes.
Our service providers (Stripe, Cloudflare, Resend) operate global infrastructure, which may process data outside the UK or EEA. Where that happens, it's covered by those providers' own safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
We keep licence and activation data for as long as your licence could reasonably be in use, or as needed to provide support, plus any period required to meet our legal or tax obligations (for example, sales records).
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
To exercise any of these, email kaniq.app@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we've mishandled your data.
KinaQ isn't directed at, or knowingly used to collect data from, children under 16.
We may update this policy as KinaQ changes — for example, if we start sending licence-key emails directly rather than relying on the on-screen confirmation. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do.
